IV vs. Injection: What’s the Difference?

When it comes to delivering nutrients, two of the most effective methods are IV infusions and intramuscular injections. But how do you know which one is right for you? At AK Live Well, we offer both, and each has its place depending on your goals, timeline, and wellness needs.

What is IV Therapy?

IV (intravenous) therapy delivers fluids and nutrients directly into your bloodstream through a vein. This allows for rapid absorption and higher bioavailability, making it ideal for full-body support. IV drips usually take 30–60 minutes and can include a wide range of ingredients tailored to your goals. From energy and immune support to detox and recovery.

What is an Injection?

An intramuscular (IM) injection delivers a concentrated dose of nutrients directly into the muscle, typically in the arm or glute. They’re quick — usually done in under a minute — and provide steady absorption over time. Injections are great for clients on the go or those who want to stay consistent between IV treatments.

Choose an IV infusion if you:
– Need hydration or multi-ingredient support
– Want fast, full-body results
– Have time for a 30–60 minute appointment

Choose an injection if you:
– Want a quick nutrient boost
– Are targeting a single concern (like low B12 or Vitamin D)
– Prefer short appointments or lower cost options

Can You Combine Them?

Yes! Many of our clients use IV therapy and injections together to maintain consistency and maximize benefits. For example, you might get an IV once a month and come in for B12 or Glutathione injections between visits.

Both IVs and injections have their place in a personalized wellness plan. If you’re not sure which one to choose, book a consultation and we’ll help you find the right fit based on your goals and lifestyle.
